Probate Records of Miller County, Arkansas, 1823-1838
By James Logan Morgan, ISBN 0-941765-80-6, 22 pages, $10.00
The Miller County on the Arkansas map today is not the first Arkansas county to bear that name. In 1820, the Arkansas General Assembly created the first Miller County--it lay on both sides of Red River in the southwest corner of the state. By 1836, all the area of Old Miller County was included in Red River County, Texas. The records that survived an 1828 courthouse fire are in the George T. Wright Collection at the University of Texas at Austin. The probate records listed in this volume are from this manuscript collection. Originally published 1981.

Old Miller County was created: 1 April 1820.
Note: For the current-day Miller County, see that page.
Parent County: Hempstead.
County Boundary Changes: Abolished in 1838.
County Records: There was a courthouse fire in 1828. Available records for Old Miller County are in the George T. Wright Collection, Miller County Records, Territory of Arkansas, July 20, 1835 - March 17, 1838, University of Texas, Austin.
