Burton Ray Knotts has done it again! For this volume, he carefully combed the pages of all the extant issues of the Pocahontas Star Herald for information about births, deaths, and marriages of the folks mentioned in the newspaper. He pulled out more than just straightforward events - his abstracts cover anniversaries, birthday parties, and charivaries (post-marriage celebrations). Burton Ray Knotts has compiled a wonderful resource, listing the details from death notices and obituaries in Randolph County, Arkansas, newspapers from 1911 through 1920 (and including some 1920 deaths mentioned in the early-1921 papers). The link above takes you to a list of the people featured in these notices. Besides those listed for whom there are notices and obits, hundreds of other people are mentioned in the book itself. If you have people in northeast Arkansas in this time period, check the list now. Each listing has as much useful information as was printed in the paper. Sometimes, it's only a few lines; other listings give tremendous details. When there were successive news items about a death, Burton has arranged them together in this book. Death certificates weren't required in Arkansas until February, 1914, and even after that date, many deaths are not listed in the state's vital records, so newspaper accounts are especially valuable for this time period.
