1870 Arkansas CensusArkansas 1870 Census Index on CD
This massive, 944-page work lists the names heads of households and people with last names different than those of their head of household. The county, census stamped page number, and civil township are listed. We've had many requests for an 1870 index and are delighted to offer this one. Note: this volume isn't like our 1850 index - it isn't an every-name compilation, it's an index to heads of households and others within households with different last names. You'll still need to find the census microfilm or an online source to see the details of the census data. These indexes, the state-wide volume and the regional volumes, will help you find your folks. We've also divided the data into regional volumes. When reading the
following county lists in the regional volumes titles, remember that nearly
one-fifth of our Arkansas counties were created after 1870. The state-wide
volume as well as the regional volumes contain extensive introductory information
about county formation and boundary changes. All the regional volumes are
from the same database as the state-wide volume, and are arranged by county,
then in alpha order by name. Census page numbers and civil townships are
listed. Introductory information suggests sources for obtaining the microfilm
from which this index was taken.
